most popular linux distribution for penetration testing

Below is the most popular Linux Penetration Testing Distribution. Penetration Testing is another name for Ethical Hacking. So technically these are Linux that build for Hacking. What makes them different with other Linux OS is that this Linux Distribution provides Exploitation Tools, Information Gathering Tools, Vulnerability Scanner Tools and many others. So here's the most popular Linux Penetration Testing Distribution:

1. BackTrack 5 r3

Backtrack is one of the most popular linux distribution based on Ubuntu for penetration tester because it has a lot of Tools that is useful for penetration tester. But Backtrack Linux is no longer being maintained, so basically the OS and all the Tools won't be updated.

2. Kali Linux

Kali Linux is the Rebirth of BackTrack Linux. So technically Kali Linux is BackTrack. The difference between Kali and BackTrack is that BackTrack BackTrack is based on Ubuntu and Kali is based on Debian.

3. BackBox

Backbox is one of a Linux Penetration Testing Distribution based on Ubuntu. a lot of people especially Beginners use Backbox because its easy. But Backbox doesn't have Hacking Tools as many as Kali Linux but you can install the Tools manually.

4. BlackBuntu

BlackBuntu is one of a Linux Penetration Testing Distribution based on Gnome Ubuntu. What makes BlackBuntu different than Ubuntu is not much, its just that BlackBuntu has a Dark Theme and provides Hacking Tools for pentester. But BlackBuntu is kinda hard to use especially for beginners in Linux.

Okay, so you've read about the Linux Distribution for penetration testing. But if you're confused and need advice about which Linux Distribution for you, well i'll give you my advice.
If you're new in Linux or in Penetration Testing, i suggest you to use BackBox so that you will have less problem and difficulties in using Linux and others.
But if you have basic knowledge in Linux or Penetration Testing then i suggest you to use Kali Linux and learn more about Debian And Linux Command. There are many more Linux for Penetration Testing but i only have experience in those 4 Linux OS. So good luck.
